Biodiversity Lab

Biodiversity Lab

Its objective is the characterization of the biodiversity of samples about the natural environment through the use of various techniques such as optical microscopy, molecular biology, the use of a collection of algae cultures and a spectrofluorimetric probe.

Spectrofluorimetric probe
The spectrofluorimetric bbe probe is a submersible probe which makes it possible to obtain the concentration in μg equivalent of chl a.L-1 of various algal classes, continuously along the water column of a lake.

thermocycleur-pour-PCR

Thermocycler for PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
This technique is used to exponentially amplify a specific DNA fragment. To achieve this, a thermocycler is used.
This technique has many applications in molecular biology (cloning, sequencing, DGGE, ...)

PFGE system (Pulse Field Gel Electrophoresis)
Pulsed field electrophoresis technique for separating very large DNA fragments, used for the study of the viral diversity of aquatic environments.

systeme-DGGE

DGGE system (Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis)
Electrophoresis technique allowing the separation of DNA molecules (amplified by PCR) of the same size but different sequences, used for the study of the diversity of microorganisms in aquatic environments.

thermocycleur-pour-PCR-quantitative

Thermal cycler for quantitative PCR
A technique for quantifying DNA in real time, used to study function genes.
